Labour Party governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, Hon. Jonathan Gaza, has said Karu Local Government Area deserves to produce the next governor of the state in 2027.

Gaza made the declaration after stakeholders in Karu endorsed his candidature at a political gathering held at the Ivana Event Centre, One Man Village.

The event brought together traditional leaders, youth and women groups, political stakeholders and representatives of different ethnic communities resident in Karu and surrounding areas.

Speaking on his ambition, Gaza said Karu had contributed significantly to the economic and electoral development of Nasarawa State but continued to face infrastructure challenges.

He specifically raised concerns over the condition of roads and access to pipe-borne water in the local government.

The Labour Party candidate cited Keffi, Akwanga and Lafia as examples of local government areas that, according to him, had benefited from producing governors.

“Keffi has pipe-borne water, but Karu that generates the highest revenue does not have,” he said.

Gaza also pointed to Karu’s electoral strength, arguing that the local government could play a significant role in determining the outcome of the 2027 governorship election.

Earlier, Karu Stakeholders Chairman, Mr. Boniface Iornumbe, said the endorsement reflected the position of stakeholders from different communities in the area.

Igwe Uchendu of Ado similarly expressed support for the decision, with stakeholders saying their objective was to secure greater development for Karu.

The Labour Party candidate for Karu/Gitata State Constituency, Hon. David Maiyaki, and other speakers at the event also pledged to support Gaza’s governorship ambition.

The stakeholders appealed to other zones and communities across Nasarawa State to support their demand for a governor from Karu in 2027.

The endorsement adds another dimension to the emerging political contest ahead of the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election, as political parties and aspirants continue to mobilise support across the state’s 13 local government areas.
