Delta Governor Recalls Late Predecessor’s Mentorship, Development Contributions
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has paid tribute to former Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, describing him as a great leader whose contributions to the development of the state would remain indelible.
Oborevwori made the remarks during a condolence visit to the family of the late former governor, who died on Monday, October 19, 2026, at the age of 71.
The governor, accompanied by his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, and top government functionaries, commiserated with Uduaghan’s widow, Mrs. Roli Uduaghan, and other members of the bereaved family.
Earlier, Oborevwori had joined family members and other dignitaries, including Uduaghan’s daughter, Orode, and former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, to receive the remains of the former governor at Osubi Airport.
During the condolence visit, the governor said the widespread expressions of grief and the large turnout of mourners reflected the late leader’s enduring influence and the impact of his years of service to Delta State.
Recalling their personal and political relationship, Oborevwori described Uduaghan as his former boss and a key figure in his political journey, acknowledging his role in his emergence and development as a public servant.
According to the governor, Uduaghan appointed him Special Adviser in 2007, an opportunity he said remained deeply significant to him.
“He was my boss. He gave me the highest political appointment, Special Adviser, in 2007. That is something that really touches my heart. You are all aware that he supported me throughout this journey,” Oborevwori said.
The governor described the late former governor as a calm, articulate and thoughtful leader who made significant contributions to the progress and development of Delta State.
He noted that the number of people who gathered to receive Uduaghan’s remains and sympathise with his family demonstrated the depth of his influence and the respect he commanded among Deltans.
Asaba International Airport Remains One of Uduaghan’s Legacies
Oborevwori particularly highlighted Uduaghan’s role in the construction of the Asaba International Airport, describing the facility as one of his enduring legacies and an important asset to Delta State.
He also commended the late governor for pursuing development projects without allowing narrow ethnic considerations to override the collective interests of the state.
According to Oborevwori, Uduaghan’s approach to governance reflected a commitment to the broader development of Delta State and the welfare of its people.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining and improving worthwhile projects inherited from previous administrations, stressing that continuity in governance was essential for sustainable development.
He cited the ongoing modification of the Effurun Roundabout Flyover as an example of his administration’s approach to infrastructure development, explaining that existing projects could be preserved and improved to enhance their functionality and value to the public.
“He has gone, but he can never be forgotten by Deltans,” the governor said.
