Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Kabi, has emerged as the newly elected president of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the National Union of Local Government (NULGE) during the union’s 7th quadrennial delegates conference on Wednesday, in Abuja.

Comrade, Kabi, who was elected unopposed, will pilot affairs of the union for four years and will be taken over from the outgoing president of the union, Comrade Abubakar Alhassan, whose four years tenure has elapsed.

Among other newly elected executives of the union were, Comrade David Jezhi as state vice president, Comrade Hannatu Abdullahi, state women committee chairperson, Comrade Abdullahi Fogbe, state trustee I, Comrade Alheri Saleh, state Welfare, Comrade Goje Daniel, State Publicity secretary, Comrade Salihu Mohammed, state Auditor, Comrade Bala Tukur Mohammed, State Treasurer, Comrade Adamu Yahaya, state Welfare Representatives and Comrade Isuwa Asher, state Auditor II.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Ibrahim Kabi, said he was indebted to God almighty for sparing his life and other members of the union for choosing him out of the teaming members of the union to serve in the capacity as the state president of NULGE in the FCT, through unanimous adoption of his candidature.

He assured members of the union that he will not take the confidence they reposed in him for granted, even as he acknowledged the role of the NULGE branch chairmen for being instrumental to his emergence and other state executives of the union.

“As we will build on the existing relationship to resolve lingering issues on the welfare of our members. Alone, the excos can go a distance but together we can go far,” he said.

He added” my fellow colleagues, your tenacity and patience will only pay off if we don’t give up but remain committed and resolute to the ideals of the service and union in no distance time, “.

The NULGE president, however, noted that the task ahead was no doubt enormous with issue bordering on staff right and privileges, saying he and other state executives of the union will tap into the challenges in order to get the desired results.

He further assured that his leadership shall engage all relevant stakeholders of the union to make the workforce more proactive, saying with mutual understanding, dialogue and collective bargaining, labour agitations will be minimal that will lead to accelerating progress towards organizational goal.

“We will also do everything in our powers to consolidate on the lofty achievements of the outgoing president and his executives as well as sail the ship of this union to greater heights,’ he said.

He therefore assured members of the union that after formal handing over in December, 2021, the new leadership will unveil it’s blueprint for implementation of the broad programme that will form the basis for the mandate given to them.

Global Times Nigeria correspondent report that certificates were presented to the newly elected FCT state NULGE executives at the end of the delegates conference.
