The minister of state for FCT, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has presented a staff of office to the newly appointed Etsu of Wako chiefdom in Kwali Area council, Abuja, Abdullaziz Usman Ibrahim as a 3rd chief.

Aliyu, who was represented by the FCT permanent secretary, Okusade Adesola at a ceremony in Kwali yesterday, noted that traditional rulers both precolonial and post colonial has contributed immensely towards peaceful coexistence and good relationship among kingdoms and empires across the country.

The Minister said the presentation of staff of office to the traditional ruler was only just a symbol of authority but also an instrument to promote peace building and conflict management especially in the face of present security challenges in various parts of the country.

“Traditional rulers are fathers of the land, they symbolises our cultural Identity that promote the best of our aspirations,” she said.

She, however, reiterated that the FCT adminstration would not spare any traditional ruler that is aiding criminality in his domain, even as she cautioned the traditional ruler against accommodating strangers with suspicious characters or group of people in their domains.

The minister, while congratulating the monarch, urged him continue with the good legacies of his predecessors, even as she called on people of Wako chiefdom to be loyal and support the monarch so that he can succeed.

Also speaking, Senator Philip Aduda, representing the FCT, thanked the minister for implementing the committee’s report, which he said brought about the emergence of the new chief of Wako chiefdom in the area.

“Because I was the chairman of the committee that established chiefdoms in Kwali Area council, which comprised of Gwomani, Pai and Wako traditional council. And I want to say that I am really happy to be associated with this history,” he said.

He disclosed some traditional rulers in the territory has been on throne without promotion for over 24 years, while urging the FCT adminstration to look into the issue of the monarch’s promotion.

He recalled how he ensured that as the committee to tackle the traditional chieftaincy dispute and other civil disturbance in Kwali area council when the former FCT minister, Bala Mohammed, set a committee.

Aduda, further disclosed that he also . ensured that monthly stipends are given to traditional rulers across the FCT, while calling on the FCT adminstration to come up with the idea of how a certain percentage of fund would be set aside for the traditional rulers.

A house of representatives member for Abuja South federal constituency, Hon Hassan Usman Sokodabo, congratulated the Etsu of Wako, while urging him not to disappoint those that stood by him to ensure he emerged as the 8th Etsu of Wako chiefdom.

He urged him to treat everyone equal irrespective of tribe, ethnic or religious differences, even as he also called of people of Wako to rally round and support their new chief in order to enhance peace,unity and development.

In his acceptance speech, the Etsu of Wako, Usman Abdulaziz Ibrahim, appreciated the FCT council of traditional rulers under the leadership of the Ona of Abaji, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, for his efforts and other members of the council towards ensuring he emerged as the next 8th of Wako chiefdom.

He said he was proud to be selected as the 8th Etsu of Wako chiefdom after 70 years of rule, saying his emergence as the next Etsu of Wako came as a surprise, even as he said it was the will of Allah.

“And I want to reach out to my fellow contestants for the Wako stool following the death of the late Alhaji Ibrahim D. Usman, as may Allah forgive him, as I urge you all to come together with unity so that we can collectively rebuild our fragmented society,’ he said.
