Kogi Bans illegal mining of solid minerals, DG Special Task force, Makama, hails Bello.

— Urges immediate compliance by illegal miners.

IDRIS AHMED, Lokoja. 

Following Kogi State government’s official banning of illegal mining across the 21 Local Government Areas of the State, Director General, Special Task Force on Illegal Smuggling of Firearms and other related crimes, Elder Friday Makama, has commended the Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for the patriotic step taken to bring sanity to illegalities.

Governor Yahaya Bello disclosed on Monday when he presented the 2024 budget proposal to the Kogi State House of Assembly, illegal mining of solid minerals has been banned in the state.

According to the Governor, illegal mining has been detrimental to the social and economic growth of the State and should be stopped.

In his reaction to the development, Elder Friday Sani Makama stated that, the present administration will not fold it’s arms and allow some fraudulently elements milk the resources of the State illegally.

Makama, who hailed the decision of Governor Bello to stop illegal mining in the state, urged Miners and Companies to comply or follow due process if they are interested in the business.

Makama stated that with the ban placed on illegal mining, the Union of miners and its Chairman and the entire EXCO are therefore equally dissolved.

He warned against non compliance with the governor’s directive adding that , Mr Yunusa Oruma and his illegal local structure of leadership has been dissolved.
