Kogi Commissioner charges Youths to Emulate Their  Pre-Independence predecessors.

Kogi state Commissioner of Information and Communication, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, has appealed to the present Nigerian Youths to emulate their predecessors who struggled for independence from the colonial masters and laid solid foundation for the unity and development of the country.

Hon. Fanwo in an address on Monday in Lokoja at the award ceremony organised by Kogi Youths Alliance, for deserving Youths who excelled in their various fields of endeavours, noted with dismay the current corrupt practices, ethnicity, sectionalism, thuggery, cultism, religious bigotry, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes due largely to lack of patriotism and nationalism .

He recalled that youths of the pre and post independent Nigeria made the country proud by their bloodless struggle for freedom from the imperialists who enslaved the nation politically and economically.

” Without much rancour and acrimony the founding fathers who were the youths then , persevered, cooperated and collectively got independence and were able to form a government after the first historic election that saw to the emergence of the first republic,” the Commissioner stated.

While hailing the spirit of one Nigeria adopted by the then leaders through adherence to the  constitution of the Republic, Fanwo however urged the present generation of youths to come together and re enact the feat of the independence heroes by being patriotic in the new struggle to rebuild Nigeria through discarding  corruption, greed, religious ,sectional discrimination, hard work and adopting discipline as a way of life.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant ( SSA) on public relations Hon. Oluwasegun Elvis, maintained that the youths should be the vanguard that will return the country to the path of positive development instead of following the paths of those that have taken joy in derailing the country to catastrophe and anarchy.

He said that with prudent management of the abundant resources, the country will provide free education to afford it to compete favourably with other developed and developing nations in science, technology and industrial revolution, adding that the future of Nigeria now depend solely on the capability of the youths as the elders go into retirement.

The Commissioner, who cautioned them against the destructive path by some elders in the course of nationhood,youths to work hard to build on the legacies of the founding fathers which was sense of purpose and direction, pleading with them to jettison the military mentality of governance, a situation he claimed has retarded the progress of the country.

Earlier, Chairman of the Kogi Youths Alliance, Comrade Oluwafemi Temitope , explained that the awardees were carefully selection a long time close motoring of performances in the it areas of chosen careers.

He said eight notable young engineers tailors mechanics, pharmacist, hoteliers, entertainers and a FRSC officer among them two females were the recipients of the award.
