As the controversy surrounding the Muslim – Muslim ticket for the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress rages, prominent Kogi state politicians have also made their contributions.

Kogi State Commissioner of Solid mineral and natural resources and All Progressive Congress, APC, stalwart from Lokoja/Kogi Federal constituency, Ho. (Engineer) Muhammed Abubakar Bashir Gegu said the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the Party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu is an indication that the political system is developing beyond religious, sectional, and ethnic considerations.

Engr. Bashir Gegu asserted while fielding questions from newsmen in Lokoja last week and noted that the best election ever conducted in the country was the 1993 Presidential election when Chief MKO Abiola ran with Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, both Muslims.

“This development is only history repeating itself as there has been a similar scenario in 1993 when Chief MKO Abiola ran on a joint ticket with fellow Muslim, Babagana Kingibe.” Bello maintained.

The APC Chieftain explained that there is nothing special about the present situation, rather, it is an indication that Nigerians have learned to tolerate one another as democracy is evolving and is fast rising above religious and ethnic considerations.

He advised Nigerians not to focus on the religion or ethnic backgrounds of the Candidates, but on their performances when they served as Governors of Lagos and Borno States respectively with their undisputable achievements, urging Nigerians to give them the chance to repeat such feats at the national level.

Engr. Bashir Gegu maintained that Tinubu and Shetima are great achievers who have not been faulted by the electorate, assuring that as experienced politicians who had both touched lives in various ways when they were governors of their respective States, will not disappoint.

He equally asked the citizens who are above 18-year and are yet to obtain their permanent voter cards to approach the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, saying the PVC is a portend tool to elect credible Leaders, Personal identification as well as business transactions.

Engr. Bashir Gegu hinted that the massive influx of other political party supporters defecting into the governing party, the All Progressives Congress in Kogi local government recently could be traced to the achievements of the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to the area.

While appreciating the returnees for taking such a wise decision, Gegu however assured them that they will be carried along in all the party’s activities noting that the task of delivering the area for all the candidates of the party in the upcoming elections in the state and the country as whole is a task that must be actualized.
