Ahead of  Zenith Bank Female Basketball League, ZBFBL, Nasarawa Amazons and female Basketball Team in the State, has received royal blessings from it’s Patron, The Andoma of Doma, and founder of the Andoma Foundation, HRH. Alhaji Ahmadu Aliyu Oga, at his Palace in Doma Local Government Area of the State.

Global Times Nigeria reports that Chairman of the State Basketball Association, Alh. Ayuba Tijanni Mohammed, led the delegation the palace of renowned traditional ruler on a courtesy call on Friday, August 18th, 2023.

Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, said the Nasarawa Amazons will be leaving for Jos, Plateau State, on Sunday, 20th August, 2023, where it will join other five teams.

According to Eche, who named some teams: Nigeria Customs, Air Warriors, Plateau Rocks, Kada Angels and Nigeria Army to participate in the first phase of the 2023 Savannah Conference slated for Monday, 21st on 27th August, 2023 at the Old Government House, Rayfield, Jos, Plateau State.

The information officer noted that the second phase of the league will hold at the rechristened Lafia Sports Arena, formerly Lafia City Hall, from 18th September to 24th of same month.

Four teams each from the Savannah Conference and Atlantic Conference will qualify for the main Championship in Lagos to determine the year’s eventual Champions, with the date yet-to-be determined by Organizers.

Players of the Nasarawa State Female Basketball team have been in closed camp training since Monday, 14th August, in Lafia, preparatory for the league’s commencement.

Speaking from their Camp in Lafia, Team Captain, Doris Shuaibu, expressed optimism that the team would do the State and her people proud in the League.

“We are very ready for the league. We are going to bring the trophy home.

“Though our maiden experience wasn’t too convincing, but this time, we will qualify by winning the first and second phases and then go to Lagos for the main Event where we are very confident of bringing the trophy home.

“We are craving the support of the State Government and great people of Nasarawa State as we go for the Championship.”

The Nasarawa State Government is expected to host and bid farewell to the ladies before their departure.
