NUJ hails Gov. Bello for providing enabling environment for practice.

The Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) has expressed its appreciation to Governor Yahaya Bello for providing the members with a conducive atmosphere to operate and thanked his Media Aides for ensuring the Christmas package to its members during last year’s Christmas celebration.

A communique released on Saturday after its Congress meeting, the Union also commended Kogi state government for its infrastructural development, especially in Lokoja town as shown through the Lokoja Civic Center (Muhammadu Buhari square) and Ganaja junction flyover described it as legacy projects among others.

The Union also commended the government for ensuring the smooth take-off of the Lokoja mega terminal which has modernized the transport system in the state.

Congress equally stressed the need for government to urgently pay attention to some roads that are in bad states, such as Lokoja-Zango-Kabba junction road, zone eight roundabouts to House of Assembly road as well as the Mount Patti road.

The Union equally advised the state government to as a matter of urgency and within its reach to revive the state-owned Radio Kogi, state Broadcasting Service (FM 94.1) which has gone off the air for months, with a passionate appeal that government’s approval for the Radio is expeditiously followed with action and with similar attention to the Graphics Newspaper.

They urged Government to also try to provide alternative means of transportation for the populace before enforcing the order, banning tricycles (Keke) and motorcycle operators from the highways.

The Council resolved to comply with the national directive of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the non-implementation of the new minimum wage.

The Council will however await further directives of the NLC in the state after serving government due notice, while members will also participate in the proposed one-day national protest called by the NLC over the planned increase in the price of petrol slated for Thursday, 27th January 2022.

While determined to be more committed to the activities of NUJ in Kogi State, Congress also urged members to take issues concerning themselves more seriously.

A vote of confidence was passed on the State Chairman of NUJ, Alhaji Adeiza Momohjimoh for transparent leadership, and a minute silence was observed in honour of Mr Semeon Ogwu, a staff of the state Secretariat of NUJ and a former General Manager of Graphics Newspaper, Mr Fidel Egwuche.
