The Adolor of Uromi Kingdom in a statement made available to our correspondent noted that the victory was well deserved as Comrade Festus Alenkhe is ably fit to lead the association.

The former Minister of State for Defence, however, said his emergence is a call to serve with so many expectations at that level of leadership.

“I congratulate Comrade Festus Alenkhe on his well-deserved victory, which was obvious from his overwhelming support within and outside the body of Journalists in Edo State, the victory is however a call to serve humanity that comes with a lot of responsibilities. I am aware the Edo State chapter of the association is doing well, ” Onolememen wrote.

“I enjoin you to add more fervor and innovations during your tenure so that your name would be written on the sands of the association’s history with gold. I have no doubt, with your experience, credentials, and reputation you will be fair, just, and equitable in carrying out this assignment as hugely expected. Make sure this NUJ under your leadership reports issues with facts, hold objective opinions on thematic issues and take the primary responsibility of being the eyes, ears, and conscience of the society.”

Onolememen described the peaceful, free and fair election by the NUJ as a democratic acid test for the association, state, and nation, and hope that this is replicated in the elections that will be held in Nigeria generally, including the presidential election, come 2023, 2024 and beyond.
