PDP Advises Ex-Super Eagles Stars To Distance From Bello To Sustain Integrity.

Idris Ahmed, Lokoja.

Coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) National Youth Frontier, Comrade Usman Austin Okai has warned the Nigeria’s football legend, Jay Jay Okocha and his 1996 victorious Super Eagles squad that their hard earned reputation would soon be rubbished if they continue with the unholy romance with Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

In a statement which he personally signed and made available to media on Sunday in Lokoja, Comrade Okai said  millions of naira have been wasted in a desperate attempt by Governor Yahaya Bello to get his bad image redeemed for his presidential bid.

The PDP coordinator alleged that millions of naira meant for civil servants’ salaries and the development of infrastructure are being spent on entertainers and ex-footballers, as part of his crude strategies that will make him popular and acceptable among Nigerians.

Okai made this observation at the backdrop of recent invitation of ex Super Eagles star footballers by the Governor to the state for a novelty football match.

The PDP youth coordinator said, “even if Bello wakes Diego Maradona from death, his image is already consigned to the dustbin of history.”

He expressed his reservation and concern for ex international footballers whose good legacies speak for them, pointing out that associating with Kogi Governor will deem their hard earned reputation before many Nigerians.

“This strategy will not work for Bello, as his reputation is already damaged beyond image laundering and repairs,” Okai said.

He equally observed that poverty has glaringly taken over every nook and cranny of the state as civil servants are permanently in a hopeless situation with percentages of their delayed salaries

The PDP youth frontliner reminded the governor of abandoned projects like remodelling of Kogi Hotels in Lokoja, Kogi House in Abuja which were almost at 80 % completion stage before the former Kogi Governor, Capt Idris Wada left office, calling for their immediate completion and commissioning.

Okai further advised Yahaya Bello to rehabilitate Lokoja township roads from the Army Baracks  to new market, instead of squandering State resources on needless ventures.

He asked the ex- international stars to rather set up a relief fund for Kogi workers rather than coming to collect the meagre resources meant for their salaries and pensioners entitlements.

For a State like Kogi that is on life support with the dearth of social and infrastructural development, it will be pathetic for ex-football stars who control series of business interests both nationally and
