Pension Administrators wants Nasarawa Assembly to reactivate rejected bill on Contributory Pension Scheme in the State.

Nasarawa State Pension Fund Administrators has urged the State House of Assembly to revisit the rejected bill for the establishment of Contributory Pension Scheme for civil servants in the State.

Recalled that a bill for contributory pension scheme in Nasarawa State was stepped down at the end of last Sixth Assembly following protest by Labour Unions who described it as anti civil servants.

Mr Aliyu Arika Dahiru of Access Pension, stated this when he led other Pension Administrators on a courtesy call to the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau today in Lafia.

He said that the contributory Pension Scheme was safer for civil servants after retirement.

He said that the visit was to appeal to the Speaker on the need to reactivate the rejected Contributory Pension Scheme considering its importance and benefits to the labour after retirement.

He emphasized that contributory pension scheme was the surest ways for retirees to get paid after service years which will go a long way in improving on their standard of living.

Dahiru said that labour need more enlightenment on the bill.

” We are here to sustain the rejected bill by the labour as it has safe way of making payment of retirees,” he said

He said that labour union as well as workers need to be enlightened, sensitized and educated on the importance of the scheme.

Dahiru also disclosed that any body that is five years to retire is exempted from the scheme.

” Workers who are five years promptly to retirement are automatically exempted from the scheme,” he said.

He said that the issue of categories of staff to be enrolled as raised by labour union apex body in the state were ill-informed.

He revealed that they will continue to meet with labour in order to educate them more on the Contributory Pension Scheme.

Responding, the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Danladi Jatau appreciated the pension administrators for the visit and promised to look into it and address the issues.

He said that Gov. Abdullahi Sule has the plights of the state workers and other people at heart and will always agree to policies that will be friendly to the people.

The Speaker called on the civil servants and other people to support the Governor to succeed.

It would be reported that the sixth assembly under the watch of Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi passed into second reading a bill seeking to make contributory pension scheme for all the state civil servants compulsory in line with the intension of the state government to reposition pension administration in the state.

However, the bill and its intensions was vehemently rejected by the state labor unions, tagging it anti worker’s bill that should not be allowed to see the light of the day, thus staging a protest to the state assembly to register thier grievances, the development that led to the leadership of the Sixth Assembly to stepped down the bill.

In another development, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau also hosted the management of Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technology Institute Lafia led by its Executive Director, Dr Daniel Ewuga Asele who said that they were in the Speaker’s office to congratulate and rejoice with him on his emergence as Speaker of the Seventh Assembly.

They prayed God to protect and guide him in his new position.

The Speaker appreciated them for the visit and assured them of good leadership that would promote unity, peace, progress and for the overall development of the state.

Similarly, Hon Ishaq Kana one time member of the State Assembly and Former House of Representatives member with his team also paid congratulatory visit to the Speaker in his office.
