2023: APC BoT member, Apugo states position on concluded Abia guber primaries, insists party has failed Nigerian people.
A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT)of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Benjamin Benedict Apugo, has failed to show its purported achievements or federal presence in Ibeku clan in Umuahia north local government areas despite garnering maximum supports from the electorates in the Abia area.
Apugo, an elder statesman and strongman of Abia politics, made his feelings known, while interacting with a cross section of journalists at his Nkata Umuahia residence during the weekend.
He regretted that none of the sons or daughters from umuahia north area have been appointed or benefited from the federal appointment in ministries, boards and agencies under the All Progressives Congress.
2023: Ikechi Emenike, and new found brides, clogs in wheel of progress of Abia APC.
According to the second republic politician, “I’m an APC man, but it is shameful for me to say it because APC has not done anything for me as a person. And it has also not done anything for my local government area, and Abia state where i come from.
“As a BoT member, and member national caucus of APC, i have nothing to show, even in appointments; nobody from my home has been given any federal appointments”.
On the outcome of the May 26th parallel gubernatorial primary elections conducted by the leadership of the APC which saw the emergence of two governorship candidates for the 2023 general elections in Abia state, Prince Apugo, also a member of the National causus of the ruling party, expressed displeasure on the lingering internal crisis in the state chapter of the party, adding that the purported recognition of the factional governorship candidate of the party in Abia state, Ikechi Emenike is null and void, as the lawsuits necessitated by the fallout of the parallel gubernatorial primaries is yet to be adjudicated by court of competent jurisdictions.
He maintained that he is unaware if Ikechi Emenike was fielded as APC Governorship flagbearer for the coming general elections conducted by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Words: “i registered Ikechi Emenike in APC, and others, but nobody from Ibeku has been given anything. You know me that I wouldn’t like ti compromise, and that’s why it is so, and I’m not happy about that.
“I don’t even know if Ikechi Emenike is contesting election. I don’t even know who will contest on the platform of APC, because, i learnt they(Ogah/Emenike) are in court”.
Asked to further state his position over handover of Abia APC structure to the State factional leader of the party, Apugo dismissed the actions of the national leadership of the party, insisting that Emenike’s purported handover of APC structure in Abia state by the national body was negated the democratic principle on which the party was founded.
The prominent elder statesman queried, “How? I am not going to talk about Ikechi Emenike, because, I don’t know him again. I have forgotten about him. I brought him into APC, but he knows how he plays game with them.
“He is the type of person they want. For me, i always follow the laws and culture of the land”, the party chieftain added. D
DAILY POST recalls that Uche Ogah had on 26th of May 2022, emerged as the Abia governorship standard bearer of the All Progressives Congress in the recently-concluded gubernatorial primary elections for the forthcoming 2023 general elections in Abia State.
Ogah was declared the winner of the just concluded gubernatorial primary elections after he scored 141,952 votes to beat his closest rival, Paul Ikonne who scored 27,054.
Other gubernatorial aspirants includes, Chief Ikechi Emenike who polled 9,446, Emeka Atuma with 7,429, Obinna Oriaku with 5,553, Alex Otti scored 2,41, and Daniel Eke who got 1,953 at the keenly contested direct primaries.On the same day, the factional APC leader in Abia state and Pro-chancellor Chairman of the Board, University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, Chief Ikechi Emenike and few of party members loyal to him, organized a parallel gubernatorial primaries wherein, he emerged as factional governorship candidate of the party for the coming 2023 general elections in Abia state.
Both candidates (Ogah and Emenike) are already in court seeking judicial interpretation on the authenticity of the exercise conducted by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State.
