The Africa Women Conference (AWC) has applauded the appointment of Ms. Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

In a statement signed by the Convener of the Conference, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, the organisation also congratulated Princess Joan Jummai Idonije on her appointment as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Centre.

The group described the appointments as a recognition of competence, dedication and longstanding commitment to women empowerment and national development.

According to the statement, both appointees have consistently demonstrated commitment to inclusive leadership, mentorship, social transformation and the advancement of women in society.

The Conference noted that the appointments hold special significance as the two women have remained active supporters of the Africa Women Conference initiative, which advocates increased participation of women in governance, entrepreneurship, policy formulation and sustainable development across Africa.

AWC also commended the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, for what it described as her unwavering commitment to promoting competent women into strategic leadership positions.

The organisation further expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sustaining policies that encourage gender inclusion, women representation and national development through purposeful appointments.

The Conference expressed confidence that the new leadership of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development would strengthen institutional capacity, deepen strategic partnerships and implement programmes that would positively impact women, children and vulnerable groups across the country.

The Governing Council members include Lois Auta, Jamila Sarki, Aisha Baiyee, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas and Princess Anne Agom-Eze.

The group prayed for wisdom, strength and success for the new leadership as they undertake the responsibility of advancing the Centre’s mandate.
