The Kogi State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Aletan Olumide Ebenezer, has commended the Vice-Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Salisu Ogbo Usman, for implementing improved security strategies aimed at safeguarding lives and property within the institution.

The Commandant gave the commendation during a courtesy and congratulatory visit to the Vice-Chancellor at his office on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, where he also called for stronger collaboration between the Corps and the University authorities.

According to Commandant Ebenezer, the partnership is intended to strengthen the existing relationship between the NSCDC and the University, while exploring additional areas of cooperation to enhance security within and around the campus community.

He congratulated Prof. Usman on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, describing it as well-deserved and a testament to his exceptional leadership and achievements during his tenure as Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic.

The NSCDC boss described the Vice-Chancellor as humble and visionary, noting that his leadership style had continued to inspire confidence among stakeholders.

He also praised the University’s Principal Officers and urged them to continue supporting the Vice-Chancellor in achieving the goals of his administration.

Commandant Ebenezer further expressed appreciation to the Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for appointing Prof. Usman as Vice-Chancellor, while encouraging the institution’s management to sustain efforts toward improving staff welfare and infrastructural development.

He described the visit as historic, noting that it was the first time since the establishment of the University that a State Commandant of the NSCDC had paid an official visit to the institution.

The Commandant assured the University management of the Corps’ readiness to provide maximum support in strengthening campus security and combating crime, stressing that the institution remains a critical national asset that must be protected.

He also requested the provision of a patrol vehicle for NSCDC personnel attached to the University to improve operational efficiency and effective monitoring of the campus environment.

Responding, Prof. Usman expressed appreciation to the Commandant for the visit, describing it as a rare honour and a significant milestone in the history of the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor described his appointment as a homecoming, recalling that Prince Abubakar Audu University was where he began his academic career and rose through the ranks to become a Professor.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the University, noting that deliberate measures were already being implemented to ensure a safer learning environment.

Prof. Usman assured the Commandant that the request presented during the visit would receive due consideration, while reiterating the University’s readiness to support initiatives that would enhance campus security.

He also commended the continued support of the Kogi State Government under Governor Ododo, particularly in the areas of staff welfare and institutional development.

“I will continue to serve with the fear of God, to the best of my ability, and justify the confidence reposed in me,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.

He further appealed for sustained collaboration and support from the NSCDC to maintain a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning within the institution.

In his vote of thanks, the University’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Onuh Attah, appreciated the Commandant and his team for their proactive efforts and continued support to the institution.

He also commended NSCDC personnel attached to the University for their professionalism and dedication to duty.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a plaque to the NSCDC Commandant by the Vice-Chancellor, with Principal Officers of the University in attendance.
