President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday virtually commissioned the newly completed School of Science Complex at the College of Education (COE), Akwanga, as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.

The commissioning ceremony, streamed live from the State House in Abuja, formed part of a nationwide exercise during which key projects across various ministries, departments, and agencies were simultaneously inaugurated.

Speaking at the event held at the college premises in Akwanga, the Provost of the institution, Dr. Best Nuhu Barau, described the project as a major milestone in the development of science education in the state and the country at large.

According to him, the College of Education, Akwanga, was the only College of Education selected nationwide for the presidential commissioning exercise, underscoring the significance of the intervention.

Dr. Barau explained that the School of Science Complex was executed as a special intervention project spanning the 2022, 2023, and 2024 fiscal years.

He noted that the project was initiated following a request by the college management to strengthen science education and provide students with modern learning facilities.

The provost expressed gratitude to both the Federal Government and the Nasarawa State Government for their support in bringing the project to fruition, describing the facility as a critical investment in the future of science and technology education.

Representing President Tinubu at the ceremony, the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Kwanta Yakubu, commended the Federal Government for funding the project.

He said the construction of the state-of-the-art science complex reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to revitalising the education sector and improving learning infrastructure across the country.

Governor Sule also disclosed that an Executive Bill would soon be transmitted to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to facilitate the smooth commencement of degree programmes at the college, following approval granted by the Federal Government.

Staff and students of the institution lauded the Federal Government for the intervention, describing the project as timely and impactful.

They, however, appealed for additional support in other critical areas to further enhance academic activities and infrastructure development within the college.

The newly commissioned School of Science Complex is expected to significantly improve access to modern laboratories, research facilities, and conducive learning environments for science students, thereby strengthening the institution’s capacity to produce highly skilled graduates in science-related disciplines.
