Residents of Kogi State, particularly members of the Odeke-Ibaji community in Ibaji Local Government Area, have been thrown into mourning following the death of their traditional ruler, HRH Chief Dominic Aneti Unane Ojotule, popularly known as the “Dóga of Odeke.”
The first-class traditional ruler, who was aged 92, died on August 8, 2026, after 22 years on the throne.
The announcement of his death was made on behalf of the family by his son, Prince Michael Ojotule, a former House of Representatives aspirant for Idah Federal Constituency and Kogi State Coordinator of the South West Agenda for Asiwaju/North Central Alliance (SWAGA/NCA).
In a statement announcing the monarch’s transition, the family expressed deep sorrow while submitting to the will of Almighty God.
“With deep sorrow and total submission to the will of Almighty God, we announce the passing to glory of HRH Chief Dominic Aneti Unane Ojotule, the first-class chief and traditional ruler of Odeke-Ibaji Community, Kogi State,” the family said.
Chief Ojotule’s death marks the end of a 22-year reign during which he occupied a prominent traditional leadership position in Odeke-Ibaji.
His passing is expected to be deeply felt by the community, traditional institutions, political stakeholders and residents who knew him during his long years of service on the throne.

The late monarch was also the father of Prince Michael Ojotule, who has been active in political and public affairs, including his previous aspiration for the Idah Federal Constituency seat and his role as Kogi State Coordinator of SWAGA/NCA.
The family is expected to announce details of the burial and funeral arrangements later.
