The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Nasarawa State for the 2027 election, Arc. Mohammed Jafar Ibrahim, has called for renewed commitment to inclusive development as the state marks its 30th anniversary.

Nasarawa State was created on October 1, 1996, by the then military administration of General Sani Abacha, making October 1, 2026, the state’s 30th anniversary.

In his anniversary message, Ibrahim described the occasion as an opportunity not only to celebrate the state’s achievements but also to reflect on its challenges and future direction.

The Sardauna Opanda in Umaisha Kingdom, Toto Local Government Area,
acknowledged the contributions of successive administrations and various groups to the development of the state, including traditional rulers, community leaders, civil servants, farmers, entrepreneurs, women and youths.

According to him, the anniversary presents an important question: what kind of Nasarawa should be handed over to the next generation?

Ibrahim said his vision was for a state where government would be closer to the people and development would reach communities irrespective of ethnicity, religion, political affiliation or geographical location.

He identified agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, education, water supply, security and economic opportunities as areas requiring sustained attention.

The PDP candidate particularly expressed concern over young people who continue to search for meaningful opportunities despite the state’s human and natural resources.

He said farmers also require better access to markets, modern agricultural support and security to enable them to contribute more effectively to the state’s economy.

“Nasarawa must begin a new chapter, one in which our abundant solid minerals, agricultural potential, strategic location, youthful population and cultural diversity are translated into tangible prosperity for our people,” he said.

Ibrahim further called for a political culture centred on public service rather than personal interest.

According to him, public office should be understood as a responsibility to improve lives and transform communities.

He also urged political actors and citizens to promote unity and avoid divisions capable of undermining the state’s development.

The call comes as Nasarawa’s 30th anniversary celebrations have featured discussions about the state’s journey since 1996. At a recent anniversary event, former INEC Chairman Prof. Attahiru Jega reflected on the state’s modest infrastructure and revenue base at its creation and its subsequent development.

Ibrahim said the future of Nasarawa depended on collective responsibility, stronger institutions, accountable leadership and citizens who remained committed to the state’s progress.

He congratulated the people of Nasarawa State on the milestone and prayed for peace, justice, unity and prosperity.
