The Kogi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its coalition partners have postponed their planned political convergence in Lokoja due to the sudden death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The event, originally intended to unveil strategic plans for the 2027 general elections and mobilize support across Kogi’s three senatorial districts, was suspended out of respect for Buhari’s passing.

Despite the postponement, the scaled-back gathering still saw key opposition figures from major parties including SDP, PDP, ADC, and dissenting APC factions engage in discussions, emphasizing a united front and readiness to challenge the ruling party in 2027.

The coalition expressed condolences to Buhari’s family and the nation, highlighting his important influence on Nigeria’s democratic journey.

The ADC declared a three-day mourning period starting July 15, 2025, suspending all political activities during this time to honor Buhari, whom they described as a man of integrity, discipline, and public service.

The party also cautioned against political exploitation of Buhari’s death.

Political observers view this coalition as a potentially powerful force in Kogi State politics, with cross-party collaboration signaling a new alliance that could impact national politics.

A new date for the full unveiling of the coalition’s agenda will be announced after the national mourning period.

Global Times Nigeria reports that the ADC-led coalition in Kogi has respectfully paused its political activities to mourn former President Buhari, while maintaining a strong commitment to political change ahead of the 2027 elections.
