Members of the United Nasarawa State Women for Sustainable Development (UNSW4SD) converged at Keffi Hotel to brainstorm on issues affecting women and find solutions.

The gathering aimed to address challenges and strategize on ways to promote women’s empowerment and sustainable development in the state.

The event provided a platform for women to share experiences, discuss challenges, and explore opportunities for growth and development where discussions centered on ways to support women in leadership, education, health, and entrepreneurship.

The “Gate Together” event, themed”Her Story is Our Celebration: Honouring Trailblazing Sisters, Sharing Inspiring Journeys,” brought together prominent women from across Nasarawa State to foster unity and discuss sustainable development strategies, also aimed to celebrate women’s achievements and address challenges facing girls and women in the state.

Representing Governor Abdullahi Sule, Commissioner for Finance Hajiya Munira Abdullahi emphasized the importance of women’s involvement in decision-making and highlighted the administration’s efforts to appoint women to key positions, providing opportunities for growth and recognizing their role as key drivers of successful governance.

According to the Governor, the administration prioritizes women’s empowerment and is committed to creating more opportunities for them in the state, calling for more support to enable his government succeed and vowed to increase women’s participation in governance, promoting gender equality.

Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University Keffi, spoke on “Inspiring to Empower the Girl Child,” emphasizing the need for a supportive environment to encourage girls to dream big, noted that Nasarawa State’s progress in addressing girl child challenges, including increased school enrollment and improved health outcomes.

“This topic is not only close to my heart but also crucial to the progress of Nasarawa State and the Nigerian nation. It has also perfectly aligned with the mission of this great Association of empowering women through education, mentorship, and resources to foster leadership, entrepreneurship, and health for a more fulfilled future”.

Prof. Sa’adatu highlighted the State Action Plan (SAP) domesticating the National Action Plan from UN Security Council Resolution 1325, creating an enabling environment for girls to prosper.

“Nasarawa State has made significant strides in addressing the challenges faced by the girl child, including increased enrollment in schools and improved health outcomes. The promulgation of State Action Plan (SAP) that domesticated the National Action Plan derived from the United Nation Security Council Resolution 1325 to ensure that State Government’s programmes are tailored to respond to the immediate and long term needs of strengthening women and children has provided the enabling environment for the girl child to be inspired to prosper and attain her full potentials”.

The event recognized Governor Sule’s contributions to gender equality, honoring him with an award. Other awardees included Hajiya Munira Abdullahi, Sa’adatu Yahaya, Halima Jabiru, and Prof. Hauwa’u Mainoma for their development efforts.
