APC Stakeholders Urge Calm Among Nasarawa West Aspirants Ahead of 2026 Primaries

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone have appealed for calm among governorship aspirants from the area as the party prepares for its 2026 primary elections.
The call followed a closed-door meeting of key party figures and aspirants, convened by former Governor and ex-APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, at the VIP Lodge in G.R.A, Keffi.
The meeting, which excluded members of the press, was reportedly aimed at fostering unity and addressing growing concerns within the ranks of the party.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, one of the governorship aspirants, Mohammed Kabiru, popularly known as “El-Kabir,” said the gathering emphasised the need for all contestants to accept the eventual outcome of the primaries in good faith.
According to him, stakeholders urged aspirants to view the process as a collective party exercise rather than a personal contest, stressing that the outcome should be accepted as the will of God and in the overall interest of the APC’s electoral success.
He clarified that opposition to the endorsement of Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu by some party members was a matter of personal choice, noting that the governor’s position did not amount to the imposition of a consensus candidate or the cancellation of the primary process.
“The governor did not foreclose the conduct of primaries, nor did he present his preference as a consensus arrangement.
The essence of our deliberation was to encourage unity and acceptance of the process for the sake of victory in the general election,” he said.
Also speaking, the host of the meeting and Executive Chairman of Keffi Local Government Area, Dr. Idris Damagani, described the gathering as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen party cohesion within the zone.
He reiterated that the APC remains a united political family, adding that stakeholders were already strategising to ensure electoral success in the forthcoming general elections.
Since the governor publicly indicated his preferred successor, the development has generated mixed reactions within the party, with some aspirants and supporters expressing reservations.
However, sources indicated that the meeting was primarily convened to ease tensions, reconcile differing interests, and encourage aspirants to work together.
Those in attendance included Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Shuaibu Labaran Magaji, Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, as well as local government chairmen, political appointees, and other party stakeholders.
