Supreme Court Verdict Affirms PDP’s Popularity — Kogi Chairman Gambo

By Yahaya Idris

The Kogi State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo, has said the recent ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria affirming the nullification of the party’s Ibadan convention underscores the PDP’s enduring appeal among Nigerians.

The apex court, in a split decision delivered on Thursday, upheld the earlier judgment of the Court of Appeal which invalidated the Ibadan convention.

Three members of the five-man panel ruled in favour of nullifying the convention, while two justices dissented, holding that the appeal had merit.

Reacting to the verdict, Gambo called on aggrieved members of the party to rally behind the emerging leadership to strengthen unity and reposition the PDP for future success.

“Our party remains the one to beat. Nigerians are yearning for the PDP. When we were in power, we demonstrated capacity and delivered prosperity.

The current level of hardship being experienced across the country was unimaginable during our time in government,” he stated.

He further maintained that the PDP significantly curtailed insecurity during its years in office and instilled hope in citizens, alleging that the party was “stylishly rigged out” of power.

According to him, Nigerians are increasingly recognising the difference and calling for the PDP’s return.

The chairman expressed optimism about the prospects of the party in Kogi State, urging residents to unite in a bid to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from Lugard House in the 2027 governorship election.

Highlighting the performance of PDP elected officials, Gambo commended Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and members of the House of Representatives from the state for what he described as commendable representation.

He also congratulated the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his role in safeguarding the party’s structure, and praised the Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Executive for efforts aimed at repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Gambo lauded the judiciary for what he described as a courageous and timely judgment, reiterating that the courts remain the last hope of the common man.

He further urged Kogi residents to take advantage of the party’s ongoing e-registration exercise and reaffirmed his commitment to providing purposeful and result-oriented leadership within the state chapter of the PDP.
