Oyebanji Wins Second Term in Ekiti Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Biodun Oyebanji, winner of the Ekiti State governorship election held on Saturday.

Oyebanji secured a second term in office after polling 319,224 votes, defeating his closest challengers — Olumuyokun Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), announced the results in the early hours of Sunday at INEC’s headquarters on Iyin Road, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Declaring the result, Oladiji said:

“Therefore, I, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, the Returning Officer for the 2026 Ekiti governorship election, hereby declare that Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is duly elected and returned as winner, and stands re-elected.”

According to the final results, the APC polled 319,224 votes, while the PDP candidate garnered 40,533 votes. The ADC candidate came third with 12,872 votes.

INEC disclosed that Ekiti State has 988,251 registered voters, out of which 384,940 voters were accredited for the election.

A total of 382,109 votes were cast, with 375,777 valid votes recorded.

In a significant outcome, the PDP candidate, who hails from Efon-Alaaye in Efon Local Government Area, lost in his own local government to the APC.

In Efon LGA, APC polled 8,742 votes, while the PDP came second with 2,051 votes.
