Nasarawa Assembly Confirms Gov. Sule’s Eight Commissioner Nominees, Animal Health College Bill Scales First Reading

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed eight commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Abdullahi Sule for appointment into the State Executive Council.

The confirmation was announced by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, Ph.D., during Wednesday’s plenary in Lafia.

Jatau congratulated the nominees on their appointments and urged them to uphold integrity, accountability and professionalism if eventually sworn into office.

The eight nominees confirmed by the Assembly are Muhammad Habeeb Nagogo from Wamba Local Government Area; Ahmed Yakubu Mohammed from Lafia LGA; Hon. Mohammed Baba Shehu from Keffi LGA; Hon. Mohammed Iyimoga Oyigye from Obi LGA; Adamu Rabecca Kpadji from Wamba LGA; Nawani Aboki from Doma LGA; Jibril Abdullahi Ibrahim, FCNA, from Nasarawa LGA; and Ashefo Daniel Paul, Ph.D., from Lafia LGA.

The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the resolution of the Assembly to Governor Sule for further necessary action.

Earlier, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, moved the motion for the confirmation of the nominees, while the Minority Leader, Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba, seconded the motion.

The nominees were subsequently confirmed unanimously after lawmakers representing their respective local government areas spoke in their favour.

The development followed the unveiling of the eight commissioner nominees by Speaker Jatau on August 5, 2026, after their names were formally submitted to the Assembly by Governor Sule for screening and confirmation.

Animal Health College Bill Scales First Reading

In a related development, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed into first reading a bill seeking the establishment of the College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Obi, and for other purposes connected thereto.

The bill is sponsored by Dr. Ibrahim Peter Akwe, member representing Obi One Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture.

Akwe moved the motion for the bill to scale its first reading, which was seconded by Hon. Esson Mairiga.

The lawmakers unanimously approved the motion, paving the way for the bill to proceed to the next stage of legislative consideration.

Speaker Jatau subsequently fixed August 25, 2026, for the second reading of the proposed legislation.

The proposed college is expected to strengthen training and human-capacity development in animal health and production while supporting the agricultural sector in Obi and Nasarawa State.
