The number of solar-powered motorised boreholes facilitated by Senator Sunday Karimi in Lokoja Local Government Area has risen to 29 following the commencement of construction on seven additional facilities.
The latest projects are part of efforts by the Kogi West senator to address persistent water challenges confronting residents of Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.
Construction commenced days after Senator Karimi pledged to facilitate five industrial solar-powered boreholes during a Town Hall Meeting with stakeholders and residents on August 24, 2026.
The senator had identified water shortage as one of the pressing challenges facing residents and promised to seek a sustainable intervention through the Corporate Social Responsibility programme of a Federal Government agency.
The initial five-borehole plan was subsequently expanded to seven, according to sources close to the senator.
The increase means more communities will potentially benefit from the intervention once the projects are completed.
Before the latest development, 22 solar-powered motorised boreholes facilitated by Karimi had already been completed and commissioned across Lokoja Local Government Area.
The addition of seven new boreholes brings the overall number to 29.
The senator’s intervention comes against the backdrop of growing concerns over access to potable water in Lokoja.
Karimi had previously taken temporary measures to provide relief to residents by deploying water tankers during Ramadan.

However, the latest borehole projects are aimed at providing a more permanent and sustainable solution through solar-powered water systems.
Residents in the beneficiary communities have commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that directly addresses the needs of ordinary residents.

Senator Karimi has also reiterated his commitment to improving infrastructure and living conditions across Kogi West Senatorial District.
The new projects are expected to complement existing efforts towards improving access to water and other basic amenities within the senatorial district.
