Women under the Nasarawa Southern Eggon Women Progressive Forum have appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider Hon. Angela Bako Ayas as the running mate to Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada in the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election.
The women made the appeal during a press conference held on Friday at Hilcon Hotel, Ombi 1, Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
According to the group, the nomination of Angela Bako Ayas as deputy governorship candidate would give women greater representation in government and provide them with a stronger voice in the affairs of the state.
Speaking on behalf of the group, its Chairlady, Mrs. Alheri Musa, urged the Wadada Campaign Team and the APC leadership to take the demand seriously and engage with Ayas with a view to considering her for the position.
Musa said women remained critical stakeholders in the electoral process, stressing that their contributions extend beyond voting to grassroots mobilisation, community engagement and political organisation.
“Women are not spectators in elections. They are organisers, voters, community influencers, campaigners and grassroots mobilisers. Any political party that understands modern electoral politics cannot afford to underestimate their influence,” she said.
The group argued that the choice of a running mate should go beyond political sentiment, saying the APC would require a candidate capable of mobilising support, communicating effectively with voters, building bridges and expanding the party’s political coalition across Nasarawa State.
The women also said the emergence of Ayas would provide the state with an opportunity to make political history by potentially producing its first female Deputy Governor since the creation of Nasarawa State.
“Nasarawa State has an opportunity to make history. The emergence of Angela Bako Ayas would potentially make her the first female Deputy Governor in the history of Nasarawa State since its creation,” the group stated.
They further maintained that selecting Ayas would help address what they described as an imbalance in political representation while strengthening the APC’s network of women mobilisers across the state’s communities.
The group expressed confidence that a ticket involving Ayas would attract broader support from women and grassroots stakeholders, particularly because of the strategic role women play in election mobilisation.

Angela Bako Ayas was a senatorial aspirant during the Nasarawa North senatorial by-election. She was subsequently reported to have stepped down from the race in favour of Senator Danladi Envulu Anza.
The Nasarawa Southern Eggon Women Progressive Forum said Nasarawa State deserved a government that reflected its diverse population and harnessed the contributions of women and other stakeholders across the state.
The appeal comes as political activities and consultations ahead of the 2027 governorship election continue to gather momentum in Nasarawa State.
