He said peace was indispensable to the development of society.

“Peace is paramount, peace is priceless and non-negotiable and it is the necessary requirement for the development of any society,” the Speaker said.

He called on citizens to live together as one family and promote peaceful relations despite their different backgrounds.

Jatau further urged residents and community leaders to work collectively to ensure that peace remained a priority in the state.

Speaker Commends Sule

The Speaker commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for his efforts toward sustaining peace in Nasarawa State.

He also appreciated the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad (Rtd.), for promoting peaceful coexistence and called for the sustenance of such efforts.

Bill Requires Broad Stakeholder Participation

The committee chairman, Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba, said the essence of the hearing was to obtain the views of stakeholders on the bill.

Zhekaba said peace was important to both human and societal development, adding that stakeholders’ recommendations would assist lawmakers during the legislative process.

He expressed hope that the public hearing would contribute to a bill capable of receiving broad acceptance if eventually passed into law.

They included representatives of the Emir of Lafia, Nasarawa State Boundary Commission, Jama’atu Nasiril Islam, Nigeria Bar Association, National Human Rights Commission, Nasarawa State Disability Rights Commission and Search for Common Ground.
