ANA launches “Read a Book” campaign in Kogi, appeals for govt, public support.

The Association of Nigerian Authors, (ANA), Kogi state Chapter, has urged the State Government to sustain the cordial relationship in efforts to re inculcate the culture of reading books among Nigerians, especially the Youths.

The appeal was part of the resolutions reached at the end of the year meeting held on Monday, at the Rakiya Ogbeha Place,(Confidence Radio FM Station), Lokoja.

Briefing Journalists on Tuesday, the new Chairman of the Association, Mr Joel Tope Elewo, expressed regret that the known vibrant Nigerian students including the general public have abandoned books and taken to shutcuts like social media and other unreliable sources of improvement on knowledge.

Mr Tope, a Senior Lecturer at the Kogi state Polytechnic, Lokoja , enjoined academics of all callings both on or off campus to support the efforts of the Association to bring back the culture of reading among the youths.

While he urged the members of the literary Association to redouble their commitment, commended them for the several sacrifices both financially and materially.

According to the Chairman, the Kogi state chapter of the Association has been in the forefront in the campaign for the sustenance of reading books both at the primary and secondary school levels.

Highlights of the end of the year 2023 meeting include music, poetry, reading and other literary presentations as well as stage drama.

One thousand books were presented to 3 schools who performed credibly at the occasion.

The Chairman also disclosed that a renown Journalist, Author and notable stakeholder of the Association, Chief Tunde Olusunle has been appointed as one of the patrons of the Kogi state chapter.

While appreciating God for making the day a reality, one of the notable leader of the Association, Mrs Bala Gbogbo thanked all members for the commitment and dedication to the great association.

Mrs. Gbogbo assured members of ANA commitment to continue to build students through regular reading culture to be world class leaders, noting that doing this,the students will come out in flying colours.

She also advised school management most especially teachers for their sacrifices in impacting them with knowledge assured the school’s management to ensure the students imbibed in reading culture. She urged the Association to work towards the plans to organize a book fair and having a readers shop.
