The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology, has assured tertiary institutions of support for improved standard of education and the overall development of the state.
Hon Daniel Ogazi (APC-Kokona East), the Chairman of the committee gave the assurance on Monday in Lafia when the management of the state College of Education, Akwanga and College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia appeared before the committee to assess their 2020 budget performances.
Ogazi said that the importance of the education sector to societal development could not be overemphasised, hence the need for the committee’s determination to support tertiary institutions in that direction.
The committee chairman while addressing the managements of the two tertiary institutions said that the exercise was to know their budget performances of the year 2020 with the view of addressing any challenge if discovered.
” This exercise is to assess your 2020 budget performance in preparation of the presentation of 2021 budget by Gov. Abdullahi Sule.
” It is when we know your budget performance that it will guide us ahead of 2021 budget.
” This committee is after quality and standard education that is why we will continue to give you the much needed support to succeed.
” As no society will achieve meaningful progress and development without sound education, ” he said.
Ogazi also urged the managements of the two institutions to ensure that their staff and students adhere strictly to COVID-19 protocols when their schools resume.
The chairman assured that the committee would collaborate with the state government to ensure improved standard of education in the state.
He urged the managements of the two schools to be up and doing towards improving on the standard of education in their institutions and the state at large.
Earlier, Dr Roseline Kela and Dr Yahaya Musa Maikeffi, the interim Administrator of College of Education, Akwanga and Provost, College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia while giving an overviews of their school activities said that the outbreak of COVID-19 has affected their schools revenue generation negatively.
They have assured the committee of their readiness to ensure total compliance to COVID-19 protocols in their schools when they resume.
They have also assured of their continued determination for improved standard of education through embarking on various policies and programmes that would have direct bearing on the lives of students and staff of their schools.
Kela, the interim Administrator of College of Education, Akwanga, however, appealed for more classrooms and hostels in the institution in order to create more enabling environment for teaching and learning.
