Stakeholders Hail Olubiyo As Talents Set NUELA Handball Championship Alight

It was a classical exposition and exhibition of Handball game on Saturday, when local talents and critical stakeholders converged  on Oyun Baptist High School, Ijagbo for the final of NUELA Group and Humanitarian U-12 and U-15 Handball championship.

The championship which featured 17 teams of different categories including boys and girls was the fourth edition of the project initiated in 2015.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Kwara State Handball Association who also doubles as the Trustee of NUELA Group, Mr. Emmanuel Olubiyo stated that the championship represent the policy thrust of the organization in taking the youths away from the street and also help make the best out of their careers.

In his remark, the Director of Kwara State Sports Council,Alhaji Ibraheem Alarape Atanda commended the organisers and acknowledged that the tourney has continued to serve for the platform for the discovery of talents while also nurturing them to stardom.

The Secretary General, Handball Federation of Nigeria(HFN); Haruna Ilerika Maigidansama who represented the Caretaker President, Samuel Ocheho, lauded the foundation for its efforts in developing sports at the grassroots and experessed his satisfaction at the display of the Handball artistry by the young players.

Among many other guests who spoke highly of the Championship were Alhaji Ibrahim Bako; a Director from the Kwara State Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Coach Bola Magaji; President, Squash Referees Association of Nigeria, Mrs Funke Kanjuni; former Board member HFN and Monisola Makanjuola; an ex-international Handballer.

Others, includes Patience Lawal; Head of Coaching Kwara State Sports Council, Mr. S.F Lambe; Principal Oyun Baptist High School, Reverend Micheal Oyewo; first vice Chairman of Handball association in Kwara State, the association’s Secretary; Folaranmi Kayode and Coach Isiaka Atanda.

The championship which also featured presentation of awards was credited to have produced the Kwara State female Handball team( Adorable Angels) that won the 2020 Prudent Energy Handball Premier League in Abuja and the team that clinched the 2019 youth Championship at the University of Ilorin.
