2027: Concern Grows in Lafia Central as Stakeholders Seek Sule, Bello, Emir’s Intervention Over Political Representation
…..Insist on Loyalty to APC, Demand Equity and Justice
As preparations for the 2027 General Elections gather momentum, concerns are mounting in the Lafia Central State Constituency of Nasarawa State over what stakeholders describe as an imbalance in political representation and power-sharing arrangements within the area.
The stakeholders, while reaffirming their commitment to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule, have called for urgent intervention to address what they perceive as growing political marginalisation in parts of the constituency.
In a statement issued to journalists in Lafia on Friday, Mr. Danladi Gideon of Bukan Sidi in Akurba Ward expressed dissatisfaction with the current political landscape in Lafia Central, warning that the situation could have implications for the future of the party in the constituency if left unaddressed.
According to him, residents of Akurba Ward and other affected communities are concerned that both elective and appointive positions have been concentrated in certain areas, leaving others with little or no representation in government.
He appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule and the Nasarawa State Chairman of the APC to carefully examine the concerns being raised and take appropriate steps to restore confidence among party loyalists in the constituency.
The statement also called on the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad (Rtd), as well as other prominent stakeholders in the state, to intervene in the interest of fairness, equity and political inclusion.
“We are appealing for justice, fairness and a sense of belonging for all communities within Lafia Central. Political inclusiveness will strengthen party unity and ensure that every segment of the constituency feels adequately represented,” the statement noted.
The stakeholders further argued that communities in Akurba, Wakwa and several rural areas outside the city centre have been politically disadvantaged over the years and should be considered in future appointments and elective positions.
While reaffirming their unwavering support for the APC and the administration of Governor Sule beyond 2027, they stressed that their demand is not driven by rebellion but by a desire for political justice and equitable representation.
They specifically urged party leaders and stakeholders to consider their communities for key political opportunities, including the Lafia Central State Assembly seat, as part of efforts to promote balance and strengthen party cohesion ahead of future elections.
