Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, Chibuzo Okereke, has outlined his preparedness for national leadership, citing years of professional contributions to legislative governance, institutional development and democratic reforms in Nigeria.
Okereke said his experience in providing technical support, knowledge management, institutional strengthening and capacity development for lawmakers, legislative aides and management staff within Nigeria’s legislative system has equipped him with the expertise needed to drive effective governance.
He noted that his academic achievements, including emerging as the recipient of the 8th President of the Senate Educational Endowment Award and the Overall Best Postgraduate Graduating Student in Legislative Governance Studies in 2018, have reinforced his commitment to promoting innovation and evidence-based policymaking.
According to him, one of his landmark contributions is the development of the National Assembly Deliberative BAROMETER Index Report, a legislative governance scorecard designed to assess the performance, accountability, transparency and institutional responsiveness of the National Assembly.
Okereke said the initiative reflects his belief that strong democratic institutions are built through innovation, credible research, strategic partnerships and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
Reaffirming his #NigeriansFirstVision, the Labour Party standard-bearer pledged to continue deploying his professional knowledge and experience to strengthen the legislature, making it more responsive, accountable and citizen-centred.
He also expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Senate for recognising his contributions to legislative governance with an appreciation souvenir, describing the honour as both humbling and motivating.
“The recognition serves as renewed motivation to continue advancing legislative governance, institutional development and democratic accountability in Nigeria,” he said.
Okereke added that his focus remains on building stronger democratic institutions, promoting good governance and delivering improved outcomes for Nigerians, as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
