Bobi Wine Escapes Midnight Military Raid at Magere Home, Wife Under House Arrest Amid Poll Chaos

Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has confirmed he narrowly escaped a dramatic midnight raid by military and police on his Magere residence last night, as tensions boil over disputed presidential election results.

In a press statement released amid a nationwide internet shutdown, Wine detailed the ordeal: “Last night was very difficult at our home in Magere. The military and police raided us. They switched off power and cut off some of our CCTV cameras. There were helicopters hovering over.” He added that he managed to flee, but his wife and other family members remain under house arrest, with security forces scouring the area for him.

Wine dismissed rumors of his abduction, blaming neighbors’ conclusions after the commotion and restricted access to the house.

“I am not at home… I know that these criminals are looking for me everywhere, and I am trying my best to keep safe,” he stated.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) leader reiterated his outright rejection of the results announced by Electoral Commission chairman, Justice Simon Byabakama, branding them “fake” and unsupported by evidence.

He accused authorities of ballot stuffing, military takeover of polling stations, detention of opposition leaders and officials, and other electoral malpractices.

Wine further condemned the killing of protesters demanding their vote. “We condemn the murder of numerous citizens who have thus far attempted to peacefully demonstrate against the broad daylight thuggery,” he said.

The people of Uganda have the right to protest in defence of their sovereign right to determine a government of their choice.

“He alleged targeted fraud against NUP candidates nationwide, even in seats with “100% evidence” of victory, calling it “absolute madness.”

Wine ended on a defiant note: “The PEOPLE OF UGANDA WILL ULTIMATELY WIN.” Photos attached to the statement purportedly show the raid scene from last night and this morning.

The developments come as Uganda grapples with post-election unrest, with security forces cracking down on opposition strongholds.
