Labour Party Shifts 2027 Primaries to May 30
The Labour Party has rescheduled all its 2027 primary elections to Saturday, May 30, 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party said the governorship and State Houses of Assembly primaries earlier fixed for May 27, as well as the presidential and National Assembly primaries earlier slated for May 29, would now hold simultaneously on the new date.
According to the party, the adjustment became necessary due to the coincidence of the earlier dates with two significant national events.
The statement noted that May 27 coincides with the 2026 Eid el-Kabir celebration, while May 29 marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of elected public office holders across the country.
The party explained that, in recognition of the spiritual importance of the Sallah celebration and the national significance of the May 29 anniversary, it decided to review its timetable to allow members, aspirants, supporters and Nigerians to fully participate in the events.
“The Labour Party, as a people-oriented and responsive political party, deemed it appropriate to adjust its schedule in order to enable members, aspirants, supporters, and Nigerians generally to fully observe these important occasions,” the statement read.
The party also expressed regret over any inconvenience the rescheduling may cause to aspirants, stakeholders and supporters, while appreciating them for their understanding and cooperation.
