Breaking: Abuja Primary School Teachers Suspend Strike as FCT Minister, Sen. Aduda Intervenes.

The FCT wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), has announced the suspension of the ongoing strike by primary school teachers of the Local Education Authority (LEA) in the territory.

Chairman of the NUT in the FCT, Comrade Stephen Knabayi who stated this at end of the union’s emergency meeting at the teachers in Gwagwalada, said the suspension of the strike was the premise of the intervention of Senator Philip Aduda and FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello.

According to him, the suspension of the primary school teachers’ strike was committed by the area council’s chairmen to implement the 2019 and 2020 promotion in November salary.

“And consequently, all primary school teachers are to return to their duty with effect from Wednesday, 1st December 2021, while SWEC in session appreciates its members for their patience, understanding, support, and solidarity,” he said.

The union, however, commenced the FCT minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, and Senator Philip Aduda, for engaging the area council’s chairmen to come up with a template for payment of outstanding arrears from December 2021.

Our correspondent recalled that both primary and secondary schools teachers had embarked on a five-day warning strike over nonpayment of their promotion arrears, but the union later directed the secondary school teachers to return to class after FCT administration has paid their arrears but directed primary school teachers to continue with the strike until area council chairmen pay its arrears.
