FCTA: Minister Approves 65 Years Retirement Age For Teachers

The FCT minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, has approved the 65 years retirement age for teachers in the territory.

The director of Human Resources Department of the FCTA, Muhammad Bashir, presented a copy of the approval letter on behalf of the minister to the chairman of the FCT wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Comrade Stephen Knabayi, in Abuja on Wednesday.

The presentation which witnessed the present of the Director of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) Dr Hassan Sule and some senior staff of the board.

According to the content of the approval letter, which our correspondent glanced through, stated that the FCT teachers will be now able retire at the age of 65 years.

The FCT administration, according to the letter has also set a limit of 40 years of service.

Our correspondent report that the development is on the backdrop of a bill sent to the national assembly by president Muhammadu Buhari on June, 2021.

However, the director of the FCT UBEB, Dr Hassan Sule, who confirmed the approval of 65 years retirement age and 40 years years of service for the teachers in the FCT, commended the FCT minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, for the approval.

He said the present FCT adminstration under the leadership of Muhammad Musa Bello, has been given the desire priority to the development of the education sector in the FCT, saying the minister had also commence payment of promotion arrears of the secondary school teachers for 2017 and 2018.
