The Management of the WAEC following the upcoming 30th edition of BECE for School Candidates has said they are preparing adequately to ensure a smooth conduct of the examination scheduled for September 14, 2020.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) earlier postponed the conduct of the examination amid the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country but later announced to administer it on September 14 to 18, 2020.
President Akufo-Addo also in one of his nation’s addresses announced for schools to be reopened to soley final year students to enable them continue with academic activities and sit for their final examination.

Speaking in an interview with Winifred Ampiaw monitored by Georgeweb.org, the Head of National Examination of WAEC, Mr Ben K. Owusu announced the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) readiness to conduct the forthcoming BECE for School Candidates.
“As the WASSCE is ongoing we also do not lose sight that the BECE is also around the corner. It has been scheduled to take place from September 14 to 18, 2020. So we are putting measures in place and preparing fivishly towards the conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination”
Mr Ben K. Owusu disclosed that 531,705 prospective students from 17,440 public and private Junior High Schools (JHSs) across the country are expected to sit for the 2020 BECE for School Candidates on September 14.
According to him, Ashanti Region has the highest number of candidates partaking the 2020 edition of the BECE, “106,857 students out of the total number (531,705) are from Ashanti Region” he told host Winifred Ampiaw.
The WAEC staff continued that the Greater Accra Region has the second-highest number of students sitting for the examination, he said 94,443 candidates are from the country’s capital are also preparing towards the examination.
The Head of National Examination of WAEC furthered that stationary made up of answer booklet, objective answer sheets, attendance registers have been distributed to various Educational Directorates.
