Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has warned politicians and other individuals against arming people for political violence, declaring that offenders will be made to face the full weight of the law.
The governor gave the warning on Wednesday when the newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel Erale, paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Asaba.
Oborevwori said his administration would maintain a firm stance against criminality regardless of the political affiliation or status of those involved.
He stressed that security remained a major component of the administration’s MORE Agenda and was necessary for sustainable development and economic growth.

The governor said nobody would be protected from prosecution for committing a crime.

“If you are my brother, if you are my friend, if you commit, you go for it. Nobody is above the law.”
He urged the new police commissioner to strengthen intelligence-led policing and surveillance across communities, highways and waterways.
According to him, particular attention should be paid to riverine communities and other areas where the waterways could be exploited by criminal elements.
Oborevwori further called for stronger cooperation between the police, other security agencies, traditional institutions, youth leaders, vigilante groups and communities
He said effective community-based policing would assist security agencies in gathering timely intelligence and building confidence among residents.
On arms proliferation, the governor called for intensified efforts to recover illegal firearms and arrest individuals found in possession of unauthorised weapons.
He said the state government would continue to support security agencies through the Delta State Security Trust Fund by providing operational vehicles and other logistics.
Oborevwori assured the new police commissioner of the state government’s cooperation as the state approaches another electioneering period.
In his remarks, CP Samuel Erale pledged to maintain peace and security across Delta State.
He said professionalism and discipline would remain central to his leadership, adding that he would build on the achievements recorded by previous commissioners.
The commissioner also promised to review and rejig the security architecture of the state to further improve the safety of residents.
