Federal University Lokoja fulfills the vision, emerges best out of new Federal Universities in Nigeria.

The Federal University, Lokoja, has attained its vision of best among the newly established Universities in Nigeria,

Professor Francisca Oladipo, Chair Person of Computing and Director Quality Assurance, of the Federal University, Lokoja, disclosed that the institution was ranked the best among its peers in the 2021 edition of the Nigerian Universities Ranking System (NUS), launched at the NAF Conference Centre, Kado Abuja.

Professor Oladipo said the ranking was done during the Capacity Building Workshop for Public Universities sponsored by TETFund and organized for Vice-Chancellors, Directors of Academic Planning, Directors of Research, Directors of ICT, Librarians, and other stakeholders from public universities in Nigeria, with the theme, “Requirements for Strengthening Nigerian Universities for Higher Global Ranking and Knowledge Economy”.

According to the Don, the newly published NUS ranking, the Federal University Lokoja ranked the best out of all the counterpart Federal Universities established in 2011 by the then President Goodluck Jonathan.

Additionally, and also ranked the second-best Federal University in the North-Central geopolitical zone.

The University Don disclosed that the young University came 16th out of the total 113 universities ranked in the 2021 edition.

In attendance at the launch of the NUS ranking was the Chairman, Board of Trustees of TETFund, Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, the Executive Secretaries of NUC and TETFund, Professors Abubakar Rasheed and Elias Bogoro respectively.

Others are Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU), Professor Samuel Gown Edoumiekumo, former Executive Secretary, NUC, Distinguished Professor Peter Okebukola, and other stakeholders.

The FUL delegation was led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi comprised of the University Librarian, Dr. Sarah Yani, Director of Academic Planning, Professor Hadi Suberu, Director of ICT, Professor Sunday Eric Adewumi, Director of Research, Professor Mohammed Suleiman, Director Quality Assurance, Professor Francisca Oladipo, Dr. David Lanlege, and Mr. Benjamin Atabo Ocholi, the TETFund Desk Officers.

Recall that in his inauguration address on 15th February 2021, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi stated categorically that: “My primary goal is to add value to the University’s stated Vision, which is to be the best among the nine newly established Federal universities in Nigeria in 2011 and one of the top ten ranking universities in Africa.”

According to the July 2021 report released by Webometrics, FUL (in less than 5 months) moved from the previous 7th position amongst its peers established the same year to 3rd position, and moved from 78th position to 35th in Nigeria.
